Weight Gain Diet Plan: 7-Day Pakistani Plan to Gain Weight the Healthy Way
Want to gain weight but nothing seems to work? A healthy weight gain diet is simple: eat about 300–500 calories more than your body uses every day, get enough protein, eat 5–6 times a day, and do some strength exercise. This way you can gain around 1–2 kg a month of healthy weight, using normal Pakistani home food. Below you will find the rules, a list of high-calorie Pakistani foods, and a full 7-day weight gain diet plan.

Key takeaways
- To gain weight, eat about 300 to 500 calories more than your body uses every day.
- Eat 5 to 6 times a day, with protein at every meal.
- Full-cream milk, eggs, daal, chana, chicken, peanut butter, dates and nuts are some of the best foods.
- A healthy pace is about 1 to 2 kg a month; faster gain is mostly fat.
- Simple strength exercise like squats and push-ups helps the weight become muscle.
Who Needs a Weight Gain Diet?
A weight gain diet is useful if you are underweight, have lost weight after an illness, or want to build muscle. To check, use our free BMI calculator. A BMI below 18.5 is considered underweight.
Important: if you are losing weight without trying, have a poor appetite for weeks, or have symptoms like a fast heartbeat, constant tiredness or stomach problems, see a doctor first. Thyroid problems, diabetes and digestive issues can all cause weight loss, and a diet alone will not fix them.
How Many Calories Do You Need to Gain Weight?
Your body needs a certain number of calories every day just to stay at the same weight. To gain weight, you need to eat more than that number. Use our calorie calculator and choose the goal “Weight gain” or “Muscle gain” to find your daily target.
For most people, adding 300–500 calories a day is enough. That is roughly one glass of milk with a banana and a handful of almonds. Eating much more than this usually adds belly fat, not healthy weight.
8 Rules of a Healthy Weight Gain Diet
- Eat every 3 hours. Three big meals are hard for people with small appetites. Five or six smaller meals are easier.
- Add protein to every meal. Eggs, milk, dahi, daal, chana, chicken and fish help the extra weight become muscle. Aim for about 1.2–1.6 g of protein per kg of body weight each day, a little more if you do strength training.
- Add healthy calories, not junk. A spoon of desi ghee or olive oil in daal, peanut butter on roti, or nuts in your milk add calories without much extra food.
- Drink some of your calories. Milkshakes and lassi are easier to finish than more roti when you are already full.
- Do not drink water or chai right before meals. It fills your stomach. Drink 30 minutes before or after eating instead.
- Do strength exercise 3 days a week. Squats, push-ups or gym training tell your body to turn food into muscle.
- Sleep 7–9 hours. Your body builds muscle while you rest.
- Be patient. Healthy weight gain is slow. Weigh yourself once a week, at the same time of day.

Easy Home-Made Weight Gain Shake
This shake gives about 450–500 calories and is a good evening snack or post-workout drink.
- 1 glass full-cream milk
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 tablespoon peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons oats
- 3 dates (seeds removed)
Blend everything for one minute and drink it fresh. You can add a few almonds for extra calories.
Common Weight Gain Mistakes
- Filling up on junk food. Cold drinks, chips and bakery items add calories, but they also add belly fat and do little for strength.
- Skipping breakfast. Missing one meal makes it very hard to reach your daily calories.
- Too much chai. Many cups of chai reduce your appetite for real food.
- Not eating enough protein. Without protein and exercise, extra weight is mostly fat.
- Giving up too early. Give the plan at least 4 weeks before judging results.
Frequently Asked Questions
How fast can I gain weight in a healthy way?
About 0.25–0.5 kg a week, or 1–2 kg a month, is a healthy pace for most people. Faster gain is usually more fat than muscle.
Which Pakistani food is best for weight gain?
Full-cream milk, eggs, daal, chana, chicken, peanut butter, dates and nuts are some of the best. They give both calories and protein.
Is desi ghee good for weight gain?
A little desi ghee adds calories easily, so 1–2 teaspoons a day can help. Large amounts are not good for your heart, so do not overdo it.
Can I gain weight without going to the gym?
Yes. Eating more is the main step. But simple home exercises like squats and push-ups help the weight become muscle instead of fat.
